infected person. HOW DO YOU KNOW ITS EBOLA? • History of contact/travel
• When a person has severe illness with
weakness and fatigue.
• Persistent high grade fever with temperature
above 38 degree Celsius that lasts for more than 2
weeks. • Intense muscle pains .
• Sore throat, vomiting and diarrhoea, shock
• Rashes
• Impaired kidney and liver
• Internal and external bleeding YOU CAN PREVENT EBOLA BY • High index of suspicion.
• Frequent hand washing with soap and water.
• Frequent use of sanitizers.
• Frequent use of chlorinated water.
• Avoid overcrowding.
• Avoid contact with infected persons and their personal belongings
• Avoid contact with dead bodies of infected
persons.
• Controlled preparation and burial of dead
bodies of infected persons. CONT’D • Avoid contact with infected animals.
• Refrain from consuming animals like fruits
bats, baboons, monkeys, antelopes etc.
• Do not pick up the dead carcasses of these
animals
• Adequate waste disposal. • Discourage of the use of same vessels in all
places
• Avoid hand shakes
• Obtain death certificate for any corpse coming
into your area.
ROLE OF PARENTS Monitor your child/children at home.
Discourage travel to endemic area.
Be ambassadors of hand washing in our
households and communities.

ROLE OF TEACHERS • Maintain a high index of suspicious for any sick
child.
• When in doubt, cross check with nearest
Hospital.
• Practice hand washing and encourage your
pupils to do same. • Use of Gloves in case a child vomits/defecates
at school.
• Ensure proper environmental sanitation.
• Head teachers to oversee the disposal at
schools.
• Educate pupils regularly on Ebola Virus Disease .
• Educate pupils regularly on simple personal
Hygiene.
• Encourage pupils to pass messages to parents
and practice personal hygiene at home.
ROLE OF SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS /
PROPRIETORS • Discourage students from sharing clothes or
other personal belongings.
• Discourage sharing of clothes and other
material things.
• Ensure that Universal Precaution Materials such
as Gloves, Apron, Facemasks, Disinfectants, Sanitizers and infrared Thermometers.
• Get and Disseminate IEC materials on Ebola in
your schools.
• Provide hand washing equipment in your
school.
• Educate pupils regularly on Ebola and personal hygiene in your school assembly.
• Provide good sanitary and waste disposal
materials in your schools
• Disseminate information on Ebola to parents. ROLE OF COMMUNITIES • Get information on Ebola Virus Disease.
• Pass the information round.
• Avoid overcrowding.
• Ensure environmental and proper waste
disposal.
• Discourage rumours and myths about EVD. • Be an ambassador of hand washing.
• Discourage improper burial practices.
• Be alert! Be vigilant! Report suspicious cases to
health facilities.
• Spread the message, not panic!
PUPIL HAVING FEVER/A SICK CHILD ? • High index of suspicious with meticulous
observation of the pupils.
• Ebola is not the only virus causing fever,
diarrhoea, vomit, etc.
• Early recognition of symptoms.
• Early alert of suspected pupils to the Helplines/ Ministry of Health.
• Report to appropriate authority.
• Call/Invite parents or wards.
• Appropriate authority will begin investigation;
ensure diagnosis and treatment as the case may
be. GOVERNMENT ACTIVITIES ON EBOLA • Enlightenment programmes.
• Advocacy/ Meetings with relevant
stakeholders.
• Health Education/ Production and
dissemination of IEC Materials.
• Sensitization through Press. • Press Conferences.
